Acupressure is an
age-old practice, which is considered
to be the simplest and most effective
form of physical therapy, with no side
effects. There are several methodologies
in the practice of acupressure. For
example, Shiatsu, Sujok, reflexology
and so on. Each one claims to cure a
variety and range of disorders and diseases.
At Dr Sarvotham's Acupressure Clinics,
Dr Vijay Sarvotham states that their
specialization is confined to some very
specific disorders. There are dealt
with after fine tuning 22 years of experience
and dedication.
The demanding lifestyle of the corporate
and competitive business has led to
high levels of stress. Common problems
are back pain; problems are back pain,
fatigue, spondylitis, headaches, anxiety,
restlessness, lack of concentration,
sleep deprivation and so on.
To treat these, Dr Vijay Sarvotham has
designed a combinational therapy of
Acupressure and Carnio to suit individuals
with different life styles, thus minimizing
stress and other related disorders.
Some tips from Dr Vijay Sarvotham to
deal with common problems:
BACK PAIN- Lower, upper or mid
back pain is seen in all age groups,
from the age of 13 onwards. Causes could
range from poor posture, lack of exercise,
sedentary lifestyle, to sleeping disorders,
poor diet, etc. Advice:
People with demanding lifestyles should
insist on a balanced diet and proper
seated posture (straight backed chairs
with a short base, so back rests flat
against the back of the chair and the
feet are on the ground). It is important
to get up and walk every 20 minutes
or at the least to get up and sit down
again. Avoid crossing the legs, and
cut out any strenuous exercise until
the pain and discomfort are minimized.
Obesity plays a major role, but losing
weight rapidly could cause ore discomfort.
Weight loss is a science and must be
done gradually. Take the advice of a
trained nutritionist.
Today, many offices have in house gym
and fitness centers. It is necessary
to assess one's state of physical fitness
and flexibility before using the machines,
doing aerobics, etc.
Starting an exercise regime: In week
1, begin with a relaxed walk for 20
minutes and increase the pace and the
time gradually over the next four weeks.
Swimming is strongly advised in Week
2, with mild free-style stretches. After
Week 4, use the services of a trained
physical fitness professional and seek
the advice of a dietitian for a good,
balanced diet. CERVICAL
SPONDYLITIS- these symptoms in the
neck region could be pain, discomfort,
stiffness, tiredness, fatigue and giddiness.
This condition could be due to long
hours in front of the computer, degenerative
changes, stress, age, obesity, sleep
deprivation and bad posture.
When an individual faces such discomfort
and pain, exercise is not advised. However,
Dr Sarvotham recommends the use of a
pillow, especially when sleeping on
one's side. The pillow contours the
neck for a more comfortable night's
sleep.
Avoid lying down and watching television
or reading books. Walking and swimming
are most effective in releasing tension
in the neck. Sitting for long stretches
may cause great discomfort, if so, take
frequent breaks. These are simple precautions.
Professional assessment and treatment
may be required for long term cures.
